Kang's creations deftly combine human traits with the individual personalities and unique qualities of animals. We wanted to know how the illustrator chooses certain qualities to highlight in her figures. "I focus on stressing the special qualities and appeal of both the animal and the human they're inspired by," Connie said. For instance, I may get a strong mafia sense from a picture of an angry owl strutting. That prompted me to create a mafia boss figure modeled by Al Pacino in The Godfather. I underline especially those qualities that highlight authenticity and comedy, therefore establishing a link between the animal's personality and the human interpretation.
